Conditions of Travel
DETOURS reserves the right to alter the route or itinerary of any of its tours and arrange alternative carriers to those advertised if necessary. No refunds will be given in these circumstances or in the event of any delay, curtailment or alteration of a trip resulting from any cause including severe weather conditions or mechanical failure. Components of trips are weather dependant and DETOURS cannot be held liable if trip components are not available on the day of travel. DETOURS can not guarantee pick up or drop off times and is not liable for passenger failure to connect with other services or any associated costs resulting from such delays. We accept no responsibility for loss or damage to personal belongings or baggage. The Native American components of our tours are subject to cultural conditions. Participants may be absent due to cultural commitments with minimal prior notification and DETOURS reserves the right to amend the itinerary in these circumstances with no obligation to refund.
Rates are quoted in USD and are correct at time of publication. Prices can be subject to change at the discretion of DETOURS. No responsibility is accepted by DETOURS for misrepresentation of touring partners.
A $500 deposit is required at the time of tour confirmation. A 50% deposit is due 60 days prior to tour departure date with the remaining balance due no later than 30 days prior to departure date. A non-refundable credit card surcharge of 3% applies on all credit card transactions for the 50% deposit and final payment. Other forms of acceptable payment methods include: Cash, Check, Money Order, and Bank Transfer. Please note: Tour Partner payment policies may vary from the above and are subject to change at any time. These are available on request from our Customer Service Team.
Due to the extensive organization involved with touring, a strict cancellation fee will be applicable to compensate for costs. The $500 deposit paid is non-refundable. Any cancellations made 60-35 days prior to departure date are subject to a 50% refund. Any cancelation made 34 days or less from the tour departure date is non refundable and will be charged 100% of the tour cost.
The above cancellation policy is in addition to fees which may be levied by accommodation, travel agents or third party tour cancellation fees.
All optional third party tours/activities pre-scheduled are paid direct to DETOURS. If an additional third party tour/activity is booked while on tour, the guest is responsible for paying the third party directly. Third party tours are subject to seasonal conditions, operator availability and time constraints and are not guaranteed unless confirmed by DETOURS or the third party tour company directly.
Minimum Passenger Numbers
Public third party tours require a minimum number of passengers to operate. Minimum passenger numbers differ between tours and operators and are subject to change at any time. In circumstances where minimum numbers are not reached an alternative may be offered. If a third party tour is cancelled due to minimum passenger numbers not being reached, passengers will be offered an alternate tour option or be provided with a full refund of the third party tour cost.
Changing to Bookings
In the event of a booking alteration (such as a name change or date change), DETOURS and our third party tour operators, reserve the right to charge a fee where applicable.
We make every effort to safeguard our guests, DETOURS cannot be held liable for any damage, injury, or loss of any kind caused by or resulting from any act or omission by its employees, agents or contractors. DETOURS also assumes no responsibility for any act of negligence, act or omission whatsoever by any company whose services are used as part of packages provided, including but not limited to activity and accommodation providers.
DETOURS reserves the right to charge a fuel surcharge as a result of escalation in the price of petroleum.
Travel insurance in NOT included in the tour price. DETOURS does not require passengers to hold travel insurance. If guests wish to purchase travel insurance, this must be obtained by a third party insurance company. Policy information must be provided prior to the tour departure date if travel insurance is purchased. Your Insurance protection must include coverage for cancellations, medical and repatriation expenses, personal injury and accident, death and loss of personal baggage and money and personal liability insurance. Please note that during your trip there may be opportunities to take part in adventure activities or excursions that have not been pre-scheduled. These do not form part of your contracted trip with DETOURS and you should ensure your Travel Insurance covers your participation in these activities. Travel insurance is compulsory for all travelers except where prohibited by law.

Pick up and Drop off points
All pick up and drop off locations and times published are an estimate only and are subject to change at short notice. Guests will be advised of correct details at the time of reconfirmation.
Fitness and Participation
Our tours can be active and most require a reasonable level of fitness. If you have any doubts about the suitability, please check with our Customer Service Team as we reserve the right to assess suitability to participate at the time of confirmation.
Our emphasis is on fresh food wherever possible with meals that are nutritious and varied. Types of meals are subject to guests preferences. If any participating guests have any food allergies please inform a Detours agent of any intolerances prior to the start of the tour.
Individual Luggage must be kept to a MAXIMUM OF 50 pounds. It is recommended to travel with a backpack or soft overnight bag with a small day pack for easy access to camera, sun block etc. It is recommended to plan ahead and arrange to store bulky items pre-tour. It may be necessary to freight excess luggage at passenger’s expense.
