Hoover Dam Half Day Tour

Morning half day tour departs at approximately 8:00am and returns at approximately 12:00pm.

Afternoon half day tour departs at approximately 1:00pm and returns at approximately 5:00pm.

After a convenient hotel pick-up from the Las Vegas Strip, we’ll tour the engineering feat that is the Hoover Dam, a national historic landmark on the mighty Colorado River, only a short distance from Las Vegas. The Hoover Dam, built during the Great Depression, spans approximately 245 square miles of surface area and took 3.25 million yards of concrete to construct. Irrigating over 1,000,00 acres and providing water to 8,000,000 people in Arizona, California, and Nevada, the Hoover Dam continues to play an essential role for the surrounding economies and their inhabitants. During the tour of the Hoover Dam, you will be treated to the best views from both the Arizona and Nevada sides of the Colorado River. The Mike O’Callaghan/Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge now offers the highest accessible overlook of the Hoover Dam and Black Canyon and will be seen from the top of Hoover Dam. Your day will also include a stop at Maverick Terminal before leaving Las Vegas for your guided tour inside this National Historic Landmark including live presentations, an amazing film about the history and construction of the Hoover Dam, the exhibit gallery, observation deck, and a trip down to the observation room to view the massive generators.

“We are here to celebrate the completion of the greatest dam in the world, rising 726 feet above the bedrock of the river and altering the geography of a whole region: we are here to see the creation of the largest artificial lake in the world-115 miles long, holding enough water, for example, to cover the whole State of Connecticut to a depth of ten feet; and we are here to see nearing completion a power house which will contain the largest generators and turbines yet installed in this country, machinery that can continuously supply nearly two million horsepower of electric energy.” “Speech by Roosevelt at the Dedication of Boulder Dam, September 30, 1935,” in Edgar B. Nixon, ed., Franklin D. Roosevelt and Conservation, 1911-1945, 2 vols. (New York, 1957), pp. 438-41
